Between ancient walls and narrow bays of old typologies, spaces are usually organized horizontally, fitting rooms into small openings along meager façades. In this proposal by Inusual, we set aside the rigidity of the horizontal plane: the program of needs is broken down and then reorganized, with the vertical component acting as the unifying element.
The surprise emerges in the spatial organization in height. The staircase has the virtue of stitching the spaces together vertically—a sense of ascent from every surrounding angle. Perspectives compel us to lift our gaze and feel that the ceiling begins far beyond the familiar two and a half meters.
And, at the end, the sky over Zaragoza. A privileged place to sense the outdoors and enjoy views of the towers of San Cayetano and El Pilar.
Upon the worn walls, many stories evoke other times; the building itself, in its petrified movement, tells us of difficult moments from its past. The memories in its fissures are the wrinkles of a skin that gifts us the wisdom of elders. Far from hiding its scars, the project highlights them as a triumphant testament to battles once won. The folds of its surfaces express the victory of one who has withstood the rigors of time and of people.
Now, with its ailments healed, rested and renewed, the penthouse invites us to share new stories within its walls—those you wish to bring to this new chapter.
